Ultra-trail tracking

Real-time tracking of runners during ultramarathons. I worked mainly on the embedded side, programming the IoT devices in C on Zephyr and sending their data to the backend over MQTT.

About

A mobile, IoT-based system for tracking participants during ultra-trail races, developed as a team for our bachelor thesis at NTNU. Data from IoT devices goes to a C# backend over MQTT, and SignalR pushes real-time updates to a React and TypeScript frontend for three user groups.

My part

  • Mainly the embedded and IoT side, programmed in C on the Zephyr real-time operating system
  • Communication between the IoT devices and the backend over MQTT
  • Debugging across the whole chain, from embedded and network to backend and frontend
